Russia Outlaws Christian Witnessing

[not an endorsement of Vigilant Christian but for information]

"Russian president Vladimir Putin approved a package of anti-terrorism laws that usher in tighter restrictions on missionary activity and evangelism.
Despite prayers and protests from religious leaders and human rights advocates, the Kremlin announced Putin’s approval yesterday. The amendments, including laws against sharing faith in homes, online, or anywhere but recognized church buildings, go into effect July 20.
Christians in Russia won’t be allowed to email their friends an invitation to church or to evangelize in their own homes if Russia’s newest set of surveillance and anti-terrorism laws are enacted.
The proposed laws, considered the country’s most restrictive measures in post-Soviet history, place broad limitations on missionary work, including preaching, teaching, and engaging in any activity designed to recruit people into a religious group.
To share their faith, citizens must secure a government permit through a registered religious organization, and they cannot evangelize anywhere besides churches and other religious sites. The restrictions even apply to activity in private residences and online.
Following a wave of Russian nationalist propaganda, the laws passed almost unanimously in the Duma
Proposed by United Russia party lawmaker Irina Yarovaya, the law appears to target religious groups outside the Russian Orthodox church. Because it defines missionary activities as religious practices to spread a faith beyond its members, “if that is interpreted as the Moscow Patriarchate is likely to, it will mean the Orthodox Church can go after ethnic Russians but that no other church will be allowed to,” according to Frank Goble, an expert on religious and ethnic issues in the region.
Russian nationalist identity remains tied up with the Russian Orthodox church.
Stalin-era religious restrictions—including outlawing religious activity outside of registered churches and banning parents from teaching faith to their kids—remained on the books until the collapse of the Soviet Union, though the government enforced them only selectively.
Some have questioned whether the government could or would monitor religious activity in private Christian homes.
“I don’t think you can overestimate the Russian government’s willingess to exert control,” Aikman told CT. If history is any indication, the proposed regulations reveal a pattern of “creeping totalitarianism” in the country, he said.
The so-called Big Brother laws also introduce widespread surveillance of online activity, including requiring encrypted apps to give the government the power to decode them, and assigning stronger punishments for extremism and terrorism.
The proposal is an “attack on freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and the right to privacy that gives law enforcement unreasonably broad powers,” the humanitarian group Human Rights Watch told The Guardian.
If passed, the anti-evangelism law carries fines up to US $780 for an individual and $15,500 for an organization. Foreign visitors who violate the law face deportation.
Russia has already moved to contain foreign missionaries. The “foreign agent” law, adopted in 2012, requires groups from abroad to file detailed paperwork and be subject to government audits and raids. Since then, the NGO sector has shrunk by a third, according to government statistics.
“In Moscow, we shared an office with 24 organizations. Not a single foreign expatriate mission is there now,” Rakhuba previously told CT. “They could not re-register. Missionaries could not return to Russia because they could not renew their visas. It is next to impossible to get registration as a foreign organization today.”
While Russia’s evangelicals pray that the proposed regulations are amended or vetoed, they have gone underground before, and they’ll be willing to do it again, Rakhuba said.
“They say, ‘If it will come to it, it’s not going to stop us from worshiping and sharing our faith,’” he wrote. “The Great Commission isn’t just for a time of freedom.”

This is very important to warn about. Basically they have outlawed working out of approved churches and noticed even ONLINE. This means if I was Russian which I am not, I am an American citizen, this blog would be immediately outlawed and shut down. I always warned on this blog, they would create laws where those outside the accepted "harlot" church system would be silenced, and we see this happening in Russia.

Notice too they used TERRORISM laws to do this. Now imagine churches united with the Roman Catholic church and who are ecumenical with it and it's harlots pushing for laws like this HERE.

Some say Trump is going to win the presidential election, and "unity" with Russia is on the game plan. I don't know. I do see America especially under the lash of Isis [created by the powers that be or not]  and terrorism especially if European level crises come here, doing a full sweep outlawing of all religious activities outside of organized religion and "official churches". This would be far harder to pull off in America but there are many who would be interested in silencing the gospel being preached.

Keep in mind here too the Roman Catholic church continues it's unity dance with the Orthodox church [warning Catholic link, used for information]

Franklin Graham cancelled his summit there.

I have Russian traffic on this blog...Pray for Christians in Russia.

I plan to study this issue more....

By the restriction in private homes, does this mean that Christian parents cannot teach their own children the Bible? Or does it refer to inviting others outside the immediate family into the home and sharing with them?

Either way it is encroaching upon individual freedoms, but to deny parents the ability to reach their own children is shocking.

Since glasnost there has been more freedom but it would appear that this window is closing. Many Bible scholars believe this is tied to prophecy. The reach of Russia has been limited since the breakup of the USSR and the so-called end to communism.

We do need to pray for the Christians in Russia. It should send a message to every sincere and true evangelical that we should not take anything for granted and to make the most of the time when the freedom to share still exists.

Often Christianity flourishes under persecution but it is most difficult.

Billy Graham went to Russia/USSR many years ago but he spoke in an Orthodox church.

In Christ Alone my hope is found said...

Billy Graham is a 33rd degree Freemason...he is a religious shill...he has people make a decision for Christ rather than forsaking their sins and then send them back to their church whether it be Catholic, orthodox or anything else...he even sates Muslims will be heaven...I don't think true Christians will realize the significance of religious freedom until it is taken away from them...wait till this comes to America...it most assuredly will...prolly around the time our 2nd amendment is dissolved...this is what Hitler did just before the extermination and torture of Jews..slowly rip away freedoms and put trust in government until there is nothing left...like slowly boiling the frog in water...most won't recognize until we are there...then it will be too late...there is no such thing as a true incorporated church so when they say we can only speak of Jesus in church then the final puzzle is in place...because most that realize the churches are dead and no longer attend, well the Truth will no longer be spoken..just watered down versions of the Gospel

Putin proves that communism is alive and well, it just went underground for a while in Russia and now it is back. Agree about the terrorism excuse and was created for this type of control purpose. The elite want the workers to stay in line, not think for themselves and not speak. We have a lesser form of socialism here in the US, it is called being political correct. - Don

It seems like the Orthodox Church wants a monopoly on "Christianity" in Russia.

It is important to remember that Christianity is a minority religion in Russia. 45% is Russian Orthadox. Christianity is only like .02% of the population. So while this is a sad situation for the minority of those practicing Christianity and we MUST be praying for them and other nations, it is not as devastating as if it were to happen on American soil. It is still sad!

Putin delights in his religion but he hates the way, the truth and the life. John 14:6

YouTube showed it first, as far as I know, transgender commercial today. I only had to suffer the first 4 seconds and then I skipped the ad.

Regarding Grammy's comment: the .02% probably includes Roman Catholics which of course is not true Christianity.

I wonder how this will impact the Roman church - although they are so close to the Orthodox in belief and practice.

In many of these countries, including Romania, the Orthodox Church is a state church and rules over the people. They control people's jobs and livelihood. Like the Roman church they build big edifices that tower over the towns to remind the people to whom they are to be beholden.

There are so few truly born-again Christians in this country compared to what most people call Christians, it would be interesting to see how many truly are believers. Time will tell. Some believe it will be shown at the time of The Rapture, others believe at a later time. But truth be told, there is but a remnant who are true believers today.

I hear people say they are praying for a revival. How can you revive something that is dead? And where does it say this will happen in prophecy? Rather it says the times would get darker.

Methinks this is communism revived. Possible paranoia over dissidence if people get preached the real gospel. Nothing new for Christians being seen as a threat.

I wonder if it applies to children, it seems definitely you cannot invite anyone home to do a bible study or witness. It's the crack down obviously on any house churches.
It definitely is against all freedom. Agree with you about glasnost. Remember communism is being gathered into "third way capitalism"

Yes the Grahams are false preachers and united with harlot churches including Rome and the Orthodox ones. I agree with Blogger In Christ Alone, that Graham is a shill. So are other members of his family. I believe these things are coming here, they will use some back door sneaky way to do it too, where they outlaw speech having anything to do with religion outside of an "official church body". [the harlot churches] They will set it up in some ways to silence those who have left the church system.

The war on terror was a set up from the start to dissolve freedoms and for a control matrix, 911 was the opening bid. Yes the elite want everyone controlled. I even have read about new technology where they want to give the slaves brain altering substances, to keep them focused on work. I will post about that later. Communism and Capitalism have married together in a sickening stew of post industrial state control.

Sure the Orthodox church wants a monopoly. While Russia had some missionaires for a time it seems the real ones will be sent home. Remember they are a branch of Rome and just as evil on the socio-political front.

I agree true Christianity is rare in Russia, keep praying.

Putin has been behind a revival of the Russian Orthodox church all part of the plan.

Yeah I know its Christian post, but posting here for information:

http://www.christiantoday.com/article/how.the.russian.orthodox.church.is.backing.vladimir.putins.new.world.order/81108.htm

I see preachers calling for prayers of revival of false preachers, Yes how do you pray for a revival of something that is dead.

Years ago after the Berlin wall came down there were a lot of prayer and caution re the "crashing" of communism. I agreed in my heart that this opportunity to get the true gospel into Eastern Europe was a l limited time frame. Which is apparently coming true now. Problem with that is communism hasn't come to the west with " jackboots as did in Europe, it's come through the system. Been reading for years autobiographies if Christian testimony if life behind iron and bamboo curtains. A striking similarity with our Western world is the systematic undergirding of the social structure that happened in nazi Germany and eastern Europe and China etc. We have seen it here in NZ eg political system" changed abortion pushed our school and health systems changed subtle but it's all there. Encourage narcing in everyone subtle like texting if you like service or not which has showed what those in communist countries know can't trust people. And the church us riddled with all this compromise. Wurmbrands books are excellent for training for now old but very true😃

Therese, your words wisely spoken. Thank you.

Communism has taken different forms over the years. Krushev said Russia would bury us. People scoffed at his words. But the seeds of socialism have crept in unawares into our government, our schools and even our churches. God is merely an afterthought and a weak one at that.(Or a common curse word) Christ is forbidden and hated as are His true followers. Such has it always been and such shall it always be.

God is still on the throne and fully aware of all that is going on as written in His Word for those with an ear to hear. He has not abandoned His people wherever they are, but has promised to use all circumstances for our benefit if we love and serve Him and as the Word says, called according to His purposes.

We must be mindful of our path, that it honors Him and keep our eyes on Him and His promised return for His own and to set things aright - something that no human being can do.

Amen, Anon. I hope that we're in agreement. It seems like we are.

Therese said...

Yes agreed Anon, all I said above is all said with the mindset of The Lord is in full control of all that is happening to His Church.
One of the major themes to come out of all the autobiographies of persecuted Christians esp in communist countries, is their love for their abusers. Some couldn't love these people/abusers, but the majority did.
Some had major positions within the communist government, with the sole purpose of getting information to the true(underground) church, because they couldn't let others know why they agreed to accept these positions, for their safety and the person concerned, the "hidden" ones came under a lot of persecution from their own fellow Christians as well.
I am aware now of a person high up in a major communist country who is very, sympathetic to Christ, the thing is God knows all things and this is the life that will and is coming very quickly to western nations.
I know there are very high profile leaders in The UN and other governments who are determined to wipe out Christianity, but they do this at their own peril, they are working against The Lord Himself.
We must, like those in persecuted nations, get into the habit of praying for these people, because modern day China is testimony to how wiping out Christianity, just does not work. Christianity blossoms under persecution.
Praise our God.
So fear of man is not of God but Praising Him and praying for our abusers is.
Much Love
Therese

One thing I'm trying to say is: Why are you all listening to US/Israeli propaganda?

Anonymous said...

Of course, though, our prayer could/should/would be from the Holy Spirit and not according to some rote words somewhere.

Amirte?

Bible Believer said...

Remember Capitalism and Communism is like right and left, both owned. Capitalism has been married to Communism for the third way as it is.

I don't blanche at words like socialism because the capitalists with their bail-outs out socialized the socialists.

US/Israeli propaganda? What do you mean. Is this news false? Is the gospel still being preached in Russia? Provide documentation.

I don't support Christian Zionism. Israel has the same freemason club running things.

No rote words, no masses and no sacraments with an idol.

To be fair, if you look at the Middle East, Israel is not the aggressor. They are a tiny island defending themselves in the midst of aggressive entities and a UN with the deck stacked against them. They have given up land in hopes of peace but the aggressors are never satisfied as one stated until they no longer exist. We have to separate the people from the government, just as one does with any country. No government is above reproach.

We must be careful to correctly address each issue and avoid being anti-semetic. It must be balanced and in the light of God's Word.

I was raised Russian Orthodox from a baby. At 20yrs. old I got saved. I'm afraid an INQUISITION will start in Russia. This is what happens When lost people become RELIGIOUS. It was so with the Catholic inquisitions, communist purges and now Muslim Jihad and the crucifixion of our Lord by the Pharasees. Last time I tried to witness at an orthodox church the priest told me to be quite of salvation by grace. Those were his words. I never went back. May the Lord grant mercy to the Russian Christians. Pray for President Putin and them in power in Russia. His servant, Peter

Take another look at Israel, nony. Israel and the USA, et al, are the terrorists of the world. Surely you must be joking.

Chaplain Peter said...

What is the joke? I'm commenting on the article. History shows that when religious superstitions ( that would include atheists ) come into power, the persecution begins on the real Church, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. The reason I speak of religious superstition is that when men who are not born again, have no Spirit of the living God dwelling in them, no relationship / fellowship with the creator, they become the authority themselves and with cruel hatred murder the real saints of God. It's been that way since the Roman empire. His servant, Peter

Since you addressed your comment to me, I will answer. I have actually been to the country of Israel. I am not defending the government of Israel. I am well aware of the wickedness at the government level in all countries, not only the U.S. and Israel.

I have to ask: Do you have something against Jewish people? Sure sounds like it. I hope not because that is anti-Semitism and not of the Holy Spirit.
