MasterCard readies smart cards for Iraqi welfare reforms
Venezuela Launches Electronic Rationing CardMasterCard is partnering with the UN World Food Programme (WPF) to promote the use of smart cards for the distribution of welfare benefits such as healthcare and education credits and food vouchers in Iraq. World Food Programme in digital push
This is far more then IRAQ!
"The World Food Programme (WFP) has signed a three-year deal with payments giant Mastercard to introduce “digital food” to hunger-stricken areas of the globe. Rather than physically importing and then donating food in areas that need it most, the WFP aims to use mobile phones, smart cards, electronic vouchers and text messages to extend and improve its existing programmes that give cash to enable hungry people to buy food. The WFP currently makes 5 per cent of its payments digitally, and hopes to “move hugely” to digital by 2015, a spokesman said. It currently distributes $208million in cash and vouchers each year, and operates in 38 countries including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Zambia."What do you think of the UN joining with Mastercard world wide to control food? [more steps along the way to the mark of the beast, even the most backwater area will be "digital"!]
