The Book of Proverbs #2: Proverbs 3:13-26

I was thinking about this bible passage, about how wisdom is considered more precious then rubies and "happy is the man who gains understanding". There is always a lot of for all of us to learn, but I do think gaining understanding in this world is a good thing. Notice how this Bible passages emphasizes how wisdom and knowledge are so important and is much more important then all the riches of this world, well that is true. What use all the baubles of this world if you have not listened to any truths from God? If anything the bible believing Christian should praise God for showing them many things as the world is lost in darkness. This should be with a humble attitude in that God has given us understanding, He is the source of it. Human pride comes before a fall.

Proverbs 3 [KJV]
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;
14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,
And her gain than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies,
And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand,
In her left hand riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who retain her.

19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth;
By understanding He established the heavens;
20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up,
And clouds drop down the dew.

21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes—
Keep sound wisdom and discretion;
22 So they will be life to your soul
And grace to your neck.

Verse 21 is an interesting verse as well, keep sound wisdom and discretion, especially in this world where they will present their answers to everything and you must keep God's Word in your head to counteract what you are told. How many times must we test the things we are told? That is one reason keeping to God's Word and studying it is so important.

23 Then you will walk safely in your way,
And your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
25 Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
26 For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.

Here God promises walking safely and the foot not stumbling and sweet sleep to come as a result of resting in his knowledge. Look even at how so many things have infiltrated into the Christian world how much of it is about having Christians stumble? I think of the many traps, even warned about on this blog, and there are many more.  We should praise God for what He has told us and warned us about. With the "fear" stuff, I know this world is getting really scary. One thing we must remind ourselves of is God being with us no matter what happens and His protection.  This relates to living in God's wisdom too and being open to His knowledge and understanding.

Matt 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.

How beautiful are the words of the Lord! Able to pierce the hardest heart, and to bring rest to the weary.

Quiet and solitude are required for deep meditation on His words- things lacking in modern churches.

Very nice! I'm teaching my daughter to pray for wisdom, common sense, good judgment and discernment. Every morning we go over what we are thankful for,we pray for others, and then pray for wisdom,common sense, good judgment, discernment, and awareness, and that Jesus Christ will be behind everything we say and do. I believe it's part of obeying God. He wants us to ask for wisdom. And with so much false teaching out there, we need all the wisdom from God that we can get. :-)
