Calvary Chapel Pastors Yoked to BGEA, Billy and Franklin Graham?

One shocking thing I found out as I looked into Calvary Chapel and made my time there very short was how openly and deep many Calvary Chapel pastors were involved with Billy Graham, his son-Franklin and his organization- the Billy Graham Evangelical Association. Graham is an absolute central figure in the world ecumenical movement. It seemed odd to me that in all those bible conferences, [1] done by Calvary Chapel that they would warn of world wide deception and even ecumenism itself while remaining absolutely silent about this problem.

Why would these pastors and Calvary Chapel affiliated speakers be OK with active involvement with the man who has done the most to push false unity among evangelicals with the Pope? Even Catholic Cardinals like Cardinal Mahony who is now retired from Los Angeles have been in support of Billy Graham crusades and writing letters to that affect. [2]

Why wouldn't I expect Calvary Chapel the church that had “officially” rejected the Emergent movement and Purpose Driven Life, to not have anything to do with the ecumenical Billy Graham? Why wouldn't I wonder why the Emergent “road to Rome” pointed out by Roger Oakland at the Bible prophecy conference, linked above [3] , is just as damaging as the BGEA Lausanne sponsored “road to Rome”?

Billy Graham has backed up the world evangelical movement and Roman Catholic ecumenicalism via many world and other front organizations. As the instigator of the Lausanne Covenant and Committee, starting in 1974, these efforts have been world wide. [4] The entire message has been one of false unity, to water down, 'set doctrine aside', the false ecumenical social gospel and to push a “lowest common denominator” Christianity where to simply say the name “jesus” gives you an in and any church or denomination from Catholic to Mormon that claims to be “Christian” will do. It is basically the error of “global spirituality” with an evangelical veneer and has deep connections to the Vatican and its ecumenical aims. [5]

My first shock was in finding out Chuck Smith supported Billy Graham openly. [6] In the world one can understand why sweater knitting grandmas who love the Lord and newly saved young people haven't quite seen through the shiny facade of Billy Graham but what about men who have spent years in ministry? Even Dave Hunt has toured many a church including Calvary Chapel ones warning of the “one world religion” with the Pope at the helm in his book “A Woman Rides The Beast: The Roman Catholic church and the Last Days” [7] and none of these Calvary Chapel pastors have asked themselves, “Why is Billy Graham and now Franklin so friendly with so many global elites and politicians? or “What gives with the constant meetings with the Pope at the Vatican”? Even the rather universalist statements of Billy Graham seem to rise no alarm bells among these so called studied pastors..Here is one example:

“That is what God is doing today, He's calling people out of the world, for His name whether they come from the Muslim, or the Buddhist world, or the Christian world, or the non-believing world, they are members of the Body of Christ, because they have been called by God. They may not even know the name of Jesus, but they know in their hearts that they need something that they don't have, and they turn to the only light that they have, and I think they are saved, and that they're going to be with us in heaven.'[8] [9]

If anything these pastors are failing to warn people about this apostasy, and warning of false teachers like Billy Graham and his associates who are watering down the truth and the gospel. Even direct Pope praising conjectures, seem to fail to raise any eyebrows among the Calvary Chapel elite.

“and the Catholic church has changed. They open their arms to welcome us, and we have the support of the Catholic church almost everywhere we go. And I think that what must come to the place where we keep our eyes on Jesus Christ, not on what denomination or what church, or what group we belong to.” [10]

Bob Coy of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale is one well-known Calvary Chapel pastor who has also promoted Billy Graham. One interesting connection is that Bob Coy has hired one of Graham's grandsons as a pastor in his churches. Stephan Jr. Is a minister at Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale. [11]Calvary Chapel of Fort Launderdale also has had both Billy Graham and Franklin Graham among its guest speakers on CCFL] [12] Bob Coy has also written for Decision magazine [13] the BGEA magazine and spoken at the Cove, [the BGEA seminar center] [14] ironically doing a sermon on Nov 6-9, 2009 called “What the Devil Doesn't Want You to Know” [yes the devil doesn't want you to know the truth about Billy Graham-Franklin Graham or the ecumenical movement!]

Mike McIntosh, another Calvary Chapel pastor, also has a picture of himself with Graham on the front page of the new edition of his biography "For the Love of Mike" written by Sherwood Eliot Wirt. He also supports Billy Graham. Isn't there something wrong with a Calvary Chapel pastor seeking BGEA methods of training? What does that entail? Helping to send people back to Catholic churches like Graham has at his Crusades? Telling people unity comes before truth? [15] This is 'enhancement that churches can do without!

“My pride loved it,” said McIntosh, pastor of Horizon Christian fellowship in San Diego. 'I was getting media attention, and I thought this was kind of cool” But as he sough counsel from members of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, to form a school of evangelism, based on BGEA's methods of training, his perceptions began to change. McIntosh said he saw how the mission of BGEA is to enhance other's ministries, namely those of the local church-and he wanted to take a similar approach".

Chuck Smith as the founder of Calvary Chapel has written for BGEA magazine and has praised Billy Graham as well, comparing BG's statements above, about the 'ecumenical supposed “body of Christ” which comes very close in outlook, and seems to share in the same watered down gospel. In his 1993 book, “Answers for Today” Smith says:

“Paul points out that some say I'm of Paul while others say, “I'm of Apollo'. He asked, 'Isn't that carnal?” But what's the difference between saying 'I'm a Baptist, I am a Presbyterian, I'm a Methodist, I'm a Catholic? I have found that the more spiritual a person becomes, the less denominational he is. We should realize that we're all part of the body of Christ, and that there aren't any real divisions in the Body. We're all one.” [16]

Now a truly born again believer will concede, that the name above the door in a church does not classify true unity among believers, but this message of Chuck Smith's seems to match that of Billy and Franklin Graham's lowest common denominator “Christianity”, where even the false gospel of Rome or sacramental religions join in that unity. This is not the bond of born again believers who are united via the Holy Spirit, but the typical drum-beat of home to Rome ecumenicalism, all denominations join together as one, and the new 'global spiritualism' tied with the false social gospel advanced by BGEA.

Chuck Smith goes on further...

“We're all His and we all belong to him. We see the whole Body of Christ and we begin to strive together rather then striving against one another” [p157]

This is the message of BGEA and of the ecumenical movement as a whole, set all differences aside as being unimportant. Chuck Smith has praised Billy Graham as a mentor as well and made it clear that he supports his ministries.

“I've never met a man who has done more for the Lord then Billy Graham, and the thing that impresses me is how he has remained humble through it all,” If God would use me like he used Billy that would be wonderful.......” [see 16-ibid]

Smith goes on here to talk about how he was thrilled to find out that Graham had attended one of his sermons, and how he considers Graham to be a “real credit to the Christian ministry” and a “witness for Christ”.

Again one can ask here, why isn't Smith who has “officially” warned about the Emergent movement and PDL discerning the truth about Billy Graham, Franklin Graham and how they sponsor false unity between churches? Where is the discernment? It gets concerning when all the well-known pastors form almost a mutual backslapping and advancement society.

Franklin Graham is following in his father's footsteps since Billy Graham is now very elderly, He has taken over the mantle in running BGEA, and many of his father's organizations and endeavors. He also as well has been invited to Calvary Chapel churches including Costa Mesa to speak at the "Big Tent Revival".

Contrary to some who claim different, Franklin Graham is following in is father's footsteps pretty closely and in working with politicians and unity with global elites and the world system. Franklin Graham on the front end will rail against the falsehoods of Islam but then get on a plane and fly to Saudia Arabia for interfaith meetings with King Abdullah.[17] Keep in mind this is a country where merely owning a Bible gets you arrested. Franklin Graham also stood against open witnessing at the Olympics in China, to please his political friends. Franklin Graham told the Indianapolis Star, that his father's ecumenical alliance with the Catholic church and all other denominations was one of the smartest things his father ever did. [18]

With Franklin Graham, the Calvary Chapel ties go deep. Franklin Graham has served on the board of a Calvary Chapel church in the past and many Calvary Chapel churches are part of his Franklin Graham Festivals.

Skip Heitzig is another pastor that praises Billy Graham openly and has been involved with him and his son. Skip credits his conversion to being a Christian from one day watching Billy Graham as detailed in the book “Harvest” written by Chuck Smith and Tal Brook. He has been a guest speaker at Franklin Graham festivals. [19]

One top Calvary Chapel pastor, Greg Laurie, mover and shaker behind the "Crusade" like “Harvest Fests”, is said to be the “next Billy Graham” and has been involved with both Graham and his son Franklin, multiple times having had his picture taken with both parties. This included visiting the elder Graham for lunch. Greg Laurie refers to his involvements with BGEA several times, on his blog... [20] and praises Billy Graham as the “greatest evangelist who has ever lived”..

“Then this Monday I fly to the Billy Graham Training Center of the Cove to join my friends Don McLure, Levi Lusko, and Pedro Garcia as well all teach on the topic of the last days.”

One question comes up, what are all these Calvary Chapel pastors being trained to do? Isn't there a problem with Calvary Chapel putting forth this idea that they are this “bible -believing” church along with their bible prophecy conferences and all warning of great apostasy, while integrating themselves with Billy Graham, Franklin Graham and BGEA behind the scenes?

What would the ex-Catholic converts to Calvary Chapel who have renounced that false gospel, think of the unity top Calvary Chapel pastor's are finding with Billy Graham, and Franklin Graham who has praised the last Pope as a “model of moral strength” [21]

Obviously this is a top down problem, as Chuck Smith's praise for Billy Graham, his son, and the BGEA organization is never ending and quite laudatory and the numbers of top Calvary Chapel pastors who are involved with Billy Graham is worrisome. If anything if Calvary Chapel truly held to God's Word it would not be following Billy and Franklin Graham through the door of the one world religion but would be practicing Biblical separation. If anything any truly grounded pastors who are discerning the truth would be warning about men who wish to lead evangelicals to unite with Rome and into the ecumenical movement. They would be following this Bible verse:

2 Thess. 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means [for that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"

For this reason the well meaning people in Calvary Chapel churches need to look beyond the words of Calvary Chapel preachers who claim to be against things like the Emergent movement and Purpose Driven Life, and see how the actions and the fruits are being played out.

Why Can't I Find a Church That Preaches the Truth?

2 Thessalonians 2:3 speaks of the great falling away. Many believe we are in that time now. The evidence has grown clearer that many are following after false preachers. 2 Timothy 4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears".

The best pastor I ever had, was someone who warned the congregation, “Test every teacher by God's Word, and if they fail this test and you cannot bring them to repentance or remove them, then run for the door!”. This is a message that is extraordinarily rare out there in the churches today.

The message in many false churches has to do with following men blindly instead of following the apostles who in Acts 5:29 stated “We ought to obey God rather then men”. Many false churches claim high authority for men that supersedes scripture such as Catholicism which considers it's Magisterium on par with scripture [1] to evangelical movements such as the New Apostolic Reformation which claims that church leaders today can count themselves among “today's apostles”. [2]

Instead of testing teachers by God's Word as the Bereans tested the apostles themselves with their approval, many in the churches today, just take what they are given, without thinking, questioning, praying, seeking God's guidance or comparing it to scripture. In churches with the antichrist spirit, independent thought is something to be shut down as they lead the members to join with the “world system” and teach them to sit in a pew accepting everything they are told.

One interesting phenomenon in the Christian world today, is the question “Who is your teacher”? Answering “The Holy Spirit” doesn't seem to be enough, as they celebrate vaulted Bible teachers, that introduce endless errors and accuse you of being a “Lone Ranger Christian” that refuses to conform to the hive.

Some seem to think they have fulfilled the Rev 18:4 commandment “Come out of her” just by leaving the Catholic or Mormon church, but many evangelical teachers are following the harlot as well, via false teachings and falling away. In other words racing out of a Catholic or Mormon pew, into a new trap Satan has set, is pretty common for those who ignore the direction of the Holy Spirit. If you see your church leader hanging out with Billy or Franklin Graham [both of whom have praised the Pope as a great moral teacher], or your church leader signing such documents as Evangelicals and Catholics Together [3] , it is time to ask yourself some serious questions.

What does one see when they visit the majority of churches today? Outside of a few fundamentalist, Bible and conservative church and house church hold-outs, that have truly born again leaders and discerning congregations, things are getting pretty hairy out there.

One sees many of the churches on the road to Rome. When evangelical churches start celebrating Lent and Baptists start holding to Advent, and church calendars, you know there is a problem. The Emergent movement is strong with their mystical experiences, appeal to young people, and the so called “ancient ways” and their labyrinths and relaxed coffee houses. Contemporary Christian music, including the worse aspects of rock, has taken over the churches with its repetitive lyrics and odd songs that refer to God, only in third person pro-nouns, like “Hey You”!, one realizes something is wrong.

Even fundamentalist and other churches can fall into Dominionism [seeking to unite church and state and seeking after political power and theocracy] and other errors. There are some Messianic groups who instead of preaching the gospel of grace, are trying to bring people back under the law, teaching that if they do not keep Old Testament law that they will be lost. Then there are the Charismatic and Pentecostal churches that have their members seeking after false signs and wonders and the false teachings of the prosperity gospel. Mainline Protestantism, with it's liberalism and constant compromises is no real option either.

Rick Warren is everywhere, with Purpose Driven Life this and that, and “global” based social-justice missions. Tracts are non-existent, and supposely “only nuts” go out to street preach and witness to anyone. Then there is the core basic, that the majority of churches are yoked to the ecumenical movement, which wants all who claim to be Christians, from Catholics to Mormons to Oneness Pentecostals to all “unite”. Along with the World Council of Churches, Billy Graham and the Lausanne Movement, unity becomes the prevailing message no matter the false doctrines or teachings of participating churches and religious organizations. Of course the end point of the “world evangelicalism movement” is the one world religion and interfaithism, where “Christianity” is just seen as one more path [among many religions] in the global pantheon.

So what is a Christian to do? One thing, that won't be talked about in the Christian mainstream media, is that there are many Christians out there who cannot find a local church that even keeps to the basics and who are now without a church family. They find themselves silenced and ostracized by pastors and congregations who care more about the bottom line then the truth. The Bible does call us to assemble but this can be done, via a home church, or seeking fellowship and prayer with Christian friends. If one can find a good church that holds to the truth, then by all means participate, I was blessed for almost six years being in a church that held to God's Word but did not know how rare that was at the time.

If you are called out of a church by the Holy Spirit, leave, do not let outside pressures keep you in there. Realize that there is great evidence of us being in the “last days” and that this “great falling away” was prophesied. You are to have Jesus Christ as your first love and loyalty, that means refusing to have anything to do with a false church. If you are truly born again and have examined yourself to be in the faith, [2 Cr. 13:5] you are still a member of the ekklesia, this is the “church” that 'counts”: Gods chosen according to 1 Peter 2:9.

The One World Religion: The Beast Gets Ready for Delusion

In Revelation it warns “of the one mind of the beast”, these will be the people opposed to true biblical Christianity who will be joined with the world system with the antichrist in the last days. As many know, the Roman Catholic church has been advancing the “interfaith movement” and “inter-religious dialogue” for decades especially since Vatican II. This has included even such events as Assisi where the then Pope John Paul II sponsored members of false religions praying to their false spirits and “gods”. Right on the Vatican website there are pictures of Voodoo practitioners offering liquid libations and Shintos performing rituals [1] at the Assisi ceremonies in 2002. Totally ignoring even Old Testament exhortations by God such as in Deuteronomy 12:30 which in part reads “and that you do not inquire after their gods”. The interfaith movement does just that over and over seeking after Buddha, Allah [of Islam], Shiva and the false “gods” of the pantheon of world religions.

Oddly the Vatican has promoted the same things that groups like the Unitarian Universalist Association have advanced, which basically are the tenets of Theosophy, which form some of the roots for the advancement of the one world religion. Theosophists who were basically yesterday's New-Agers, believe that “all religions hold truths”, and that all religions at the core lead to “God”. Imagine a mountain leading up to “God” with many paths that all lead to the same place. Founded in the 1890s by Madame Blavatsky, Theosophy forms the foundations for the modern New-Age movement. The prevailing message of Theosophy which sounds good to the unsaved, is of UNITY. Unity of thought, beliefs and of the world are seen as the ultimate goal. Religions are taught as being unified in core beliefs and the message is given that all religions lead to “God” while pantheism is promoted.

Many in the churches of today, believe that the only way peace will truly come to the world is by all religions “coming together for peace” and by mankind giving up “divisions. This has infected even evangelical churches who while they reject unity with false religions, promote world unity between “all who confess Christ”. In these circles one is told that “being divisive” is oddly one of the greatest sins a Christian can commit. An odd statement considering what Jesus said about division in Luke 12:51 “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division”

This invocation said in many a UU church and other New Age centers would back up that the only way peace could come to the world was by all religions coming together for peace and by mankind giving up divisions.

Alice Bailey who served as the founder of Lucis Trust along with Foster Bailey, advanced the cause that the world's supposed hope laid in a new “universal religion”
“Today, slowly the concept of a world religion and the need for it's emergence are widely desired and worked for. The fusion of faiths is now a field for discussion. Workers in the field of religion will formulate the universal platform of the new world religion. It is a work of loving synthesis, a channel for the activities of the Christ, the world teacher. The platform of the new world religion will be built by many grounds working under the inspiration of the Christ. [2]

Like Alice Bailey, the Unitarian Universalist church supports the idea of all religions and even in their case 'non-religions” joining together. One logo for the UU church is a wheel of circles containing a symbol for each world religion ranging from Buddhism to Hinduism. One main UU tenet and advanced by interfaith churches as well is that once man realizes that all religions lead to the {same} “god”, Mankind will have a “universal commonality” and will enter an era of peace such has never been seen before.

The discerning Bible Christian recognizes this “cosmic christ” of all religions as the Antichrist warned of in the Bible and the “peace” presented is the false peace warned of in the book of Daniel and 1 Thessalonians.

The recent Popes have called for the “fusion of all faiths” as well doing things like inviting the members of false religions to share the same stage, praying in mosques as Pope Benedict XVI has done, and advancing the commonality between world religions. Pope John Paul II advanced this cause stating: “The history of relations among Jews, Christians, and Muslims shows both lights and shadows, and unfortunately some sad moments, “the Pope said. In today's dangerous world, he continued, there is an “urgent need” for the world's great religions to come together in light of their common desire that all men be purified of the hatred and evil that always threatens peace. [3:Pope Says Great Religions Must Unite For Peace, Jan 19, 2004]

On the Vatican pages outlining the programs and prayers of Assisi in 2002, one prayer says it all. [4] ”Short exhortation by the Holy Father” Violence never again! Terrorism never again! In God's name, may all religions bring upon earth justice and peace, forgiveness, life and love!

Both Alice Bailey, The Unitarian Universalist Church and the Popes desire for the world's religions to join together as “one”. The Pope calls for purification of hatred and evil, Bailey for loving synthesis, at the core what is the difference?

Freedom in Christ instead of Bondage to Men

Times are coming where more and more are going to be tested, where the crowd will be going the opposite way. When a Christian will be asking themselves, “Am I the only one?” as they watch church after church fall away to deceptions? Hebrews 10:23 says “ Let us hold fast the profession of [our] faith without wavering; for he [is] faithful that promised”. Many today are wavering, under extreme pressures and the seduction of many a false preacher and pastor. While many of these are overt, many are subtle. Many are becoming alarmed watching the churches go into different areas of delusion. Some have even surmised that now we are in the time of the “great falling away” as outlined in the Bible in this 2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition”. There seems to be great evidence for this right now.

As Christians we should love unbelievers, and preach the gospel to them and love those who may in a different place, certainly for many of us even after salvation, it took time for the Holy Spirit to show us things. There are those who are innocently ignorant and teachable and seeking for truth. Many Christians will remember their own “days of ignorance” before coming under the teaching of the Holy Spirit. Opposed to them are those who choose NOT to “Obey God instead of men” and who choose to stay deceived. Keeping those things in mind, there are many being deceived by false teachers, false messages, and being led into the one world religion. This blog is going to openly talk about these things and warn people away from bondage to men, into “freedom in Christ” as Galatians 4:31 points out “So then brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free”.
